Overnight the war escalated on two fronts. Israeli airstrikes killed Ali Larijani, Iran’s national security chief and described by Netanyahu as the “boss” of the regime, along with his son Morteza and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani. Hours later, Israel launched a ground invasion of southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah, with 1 million already displaced. The IRGC vowed a “decisive and regrettable” response. Trump meanwhile scolded NATO allies for their “lack of enthusiasm” on Hormuz, said Iran is “ready to negotiate” but the “terms aren’t good enough yet,” and NATO flatly rejected his escort request. Against this backdrop, the FOMC begins its two-day meeting today. Oil settled at $103.42 Brent, $96.21 WTI yesterday. NVDA rallied 1.7% on GTC ($1T purchase order forecast through 2027, Groq acquisition, Vera Rubin in production). Futures are flat this morning; markets are frozen between the military escalation and the Fed decision tomorrow at 2:00 PM.

War Escalation | Day 18 — Two-Front War Opens

🇮🇱 ISRAEL — Larijani Assassination + Lebanon Ground Invasion

Israeli airstrikes killed Ali Larijani, Iran’s national security chief, along with his son Morteza and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani. Netanyahu had described Larijani as the “boss” of the regime. Hours after the assassination, Israel launched a ground invasion of southern Lebanon targeting Hezbollah. Over 1 million people are already displaced. The IDF has opened a simultaneous second front for the first time since the conflict began on February 28.

🇮🇷 IRAN — IRGC Vows “Decisive and Regrettable” Response

The IRGC issued an immediate statement vowing a “decisive and regrettable” response to the Larijani assassination. With Iran’s most senior remaining official eliminated, the IRGC’s retaliatory calculus has shifted from strategic restraint to mandatory response. The market read is unambiguously bearish: no off-ramp, no diplomatic channel, and now no negotiating counterpart on the Iranian side.

🇺🇸 US + NATO — Escort Request Rejected

Trump scolded NATO allies for their “lack of enthusiasm” on the Hormuz escort request. Iran, he said, is “ready to negotiate” but the “terms aren’t good enough yet.” NATO flatly rejected the escort request. Without allied naval support, the Hormuz blockade remains intact and the oil premium is structural.

War Signal Tracker | Day 18

Signal Detail Mkt Read
Larijani assassination Iran’s top security official killed; son + Basij commander also killed BEAR
Lebanon ground invasion Israel opens second front; 1M displaced BEAR
IRGC retaliation vow “Decisive and regrettable” response promised BEAR
NATO escort rejection No allied naval support; Hormuz stays closed BEAR
Trump: “terms not good enough” Iran “ready to negotiate” but no deal; ambiguous signal NEUTRAL
NVDA GTC +1.7% AI capex cycle confirmed; $1T order book BULL
FOMC begins today Two-day meeting; dot plot tomorrow is the key event NEUTRAL

NVIDIA GTC Recap | $1 Trillion. Groq. Vera Rubin. AI Keeps Spending.

Vera Rubin validation. Full production confirmation + sampling = no delay risk. GB300 racks also in production. Supply chain execution remains best-in-class despite Middle East component sourcing concerns.

Groq integration story. The $20B acquisition is already shipping silicon (Groq 3 LPU). This is faster-than-expected integration. The inference-speed advantage of Groq + NVDA’s training dominance = full-stack AI monopoly.

NemoClaw = enterprise AI catalyst. Open-source agent platform targets the next wave of AI spending: autonomous long-running agents. Enterprise AI adoption is the 2026–27 revenue bridge.

$1T order book = visibility. Doubling the purchase order forecast from $500B to $1T provides multi-year revenue visibility that no other tech company can match. This is structural, not cyclical.

Trade Ideas | FOMC Eve Positioning

▲ STRUCTURAL HOLD Energy: XOM, CVX, SLB — Two-Front War Adds Floor

Brent at $103.42 with Lebanon invasion now open and Hormuz still blocked. The Larijani assassination removes the last diplomatic off-ramp. Energy is the only sector with positive earnings revision momentum. Hold existing energy positions; reduce only on verified Hormuz reopening. The war just got longer.

Risk: A surprise ceasefire (now less likely after Larijani killing) would trigger violent energy unwind.

▲ HOLD + ADD Defence: LMT, RTX, GD, NOC — Two-Front Confirms Multi-Year Procurement

A Lebanon ground invasion on top of the Iran air campaign is the strongest possible confirmation of sustained defence spending. LMT, RTX, GD, NOC all have multi-year procurement visibility. Add on any dip.

Risk: Peace deal, the tail risk that is now further away than ever.

▲ TACTICAL NVDA — GTC Narrative Is the Only Micro Bull Case

+1.7% yesterday on a massive escalation day = NVDA is outperforming on fundamentals. The $1T order book is a multi-year earnings story. Hold through FOMC; reduce if Wednesday’s decision is hawkish and the macro overwhelms the micro.

Risk: FOMC hawkish hold (60% base case) could drag even NVDA lower on Wednesday.

▼ REDUCE / AVOID Rate-Sensitive Growth Ahead of FOMC

FOMC begins today. If the dot plot tomorrow removes 2026 cuts, high-multiple SaaS (TEAM, WDAY, CRM) faces double pressure from war-driven risk-off and rate repricing. Reduce exposure ahead of 2:00 PM tomorrow.

Bottom Line | FOMC Day. Two-Front War. No Off-Ramp.

This morning is the most dangerous conjunction of events since the war started. Overnight, Israel assassinated Iran’s most senior remaining official and opened a ground invasion of Lebanon. The IRGC is vowing retaliation. NATO has refused to help open Hormuz. And the FOMC starts a two-day meeting today in which it must address an economy with $103 oil, 55.5 consumer sentiment, rising unemployment claims, and no clean policy option. The one bright spot: NVIDIA’s GTC confirmed the AI capex cycle is alive and accelerating, giving tech at least a micro narrative to hold onto. But even that only produced +1.7% in a market that can’t see past the war. Everything hinges on tomorrow’s dot plot and Powell’s language. A hawkish hold (our base case, 60%) sends equities lower. A dovish signal is the only upside scenario and it’s the least likely. Keep positions defensive. Own energy, gold, defence. Reduce rate-sensitive exposure. Do not add risk ahead of tomorrow’s 2:00 PM decision.
